Hanau, the town on the rivers Main and Kinzig lies between Spessart, Wetterau and the Rhein-Main-City “Frankfurt” and plays an important role throughout its 850 years history.

Anno Domini 1303 Hanau receive Town Rights, its economy progressed constantly. Within its walls, Germany’s first faience manufactory was founded in 1686. The produce from the Hanauer gold and silver forges was highly respected throughout Europe.

Hanau is not only the birthplace of the Grimm brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm, authors of the world famous “Grimms Fairy Tales”, but also of the composer Paul Hindewith. The “Hanauer Amateur Theater Days” attracts yearly hundreds of amateur actors, as well as the “Brother’s Grimm Fairytale Festival”, which also takes place every Summer. A “Cultural Summer” animates the town centre in many ways. Two traditional Hanauer festivals, the “Lamboyfest”, celebrated in June since 1636, and the “Citizens Festival” are the highlights of the year.
